About Rob
Robert matthew redhead was born in jarrow tyne and wear in 1968. he attended bill quay primary school and later heworth grange comprehensive. rob became aware of music early in life and is recorded on reel to reel tape singing rod stewarts maggie may at the age of four. at age seven he was given an old 1960s record player and a bunch of 45s singles to which he listened to intently and studied, some of the collection was: neil diamond, beatles, t rex, jasper carrot.
Also around this age rob peformed in front of a live crowd for the first time.. at his primary school the children would form a queue outside the schools canteen at lunch time, rob put on an impromptu max wall peformance for the kids, dressed in black tights and wellington boots, he had seen max wall on tv's generation game and thought "that looks fun"... pulling the funny faces and doing the silly walk the children were howling with laughter and it was a feeling he would never forget.. he had caught the entertainers bug. a year later he put together possibly the world's first beatles tribute band with his class mates, one of those mates said his uncle had his own recording studio, so the mini beatles in 1977 ages nine went into the studio for the first time, rob adorned the headphones and sang into the microphone and a recording of the beatles please, please me was recorded.. this would mark robs first proffesional studio time.
In 1978 at the age of ten rob was becoming aware of music via the radio and television, it was 1978 and he began buying 45s singles of his own, his first single he bought was jimmy, jimmy by the undertones.. others followed quickly: bannana splits (yellow vinyl), tubeway army, the jam, the clash, stars on 45 (beatles version), sex pistols.
Two years later age 12 he was introduced to heavy rock by his school best friend brian waugh, brian was a big rush fan, rob became a big fan of rush too but very quickly discovered a new band of his own led zeppelin. zeppelin was the catalyst that sparked his creative imagination.. destined to become an artist of some sort, he realised that music was his first love and began nagging his parents for an electric guitar.
The guitar arrived together with a practice amp 12 months later at christmas, it was a new make of japaneze guitar called ibanez.. that christmas day rob played it all day, and then all the next day.. and the next.. and the next.He has been performing and writing music for over twenty years, here are examples of his songwriting, musical instrumentation performing, music production, singing, visual art, video creation and editing.
